In an effort to embrace and welcome our neurodiverse members of our community, St. Peter Catholic Church will be hosting a monthly Sensory Mass on the third Sunday of every month at the 3pm. Fr. Nicholas Reynolds, O.P. will be presiding at the first Sensory Friendly Mass on December 15th. All are welcome to attend. A special invitation is extended to any person in need of sensory accommodations.
What is a Sensory Mass?
A Sensory Friendly Mass requires a welcoming stigma-free environment and accommodations to help reduce over-stimulation and sensory overload. The Mass will include softer music, dimmer lighting, pictorial resources, and self-regulation tools for those with special needs. Families are also encouraged to bring any regulation tool (noise reduction items, quiet fidgets, flexible seating items, and weighted objects, etc.) that can support focused-attention and provide comfort to a person so they can feel safe in their environment.
The Sensory Mass is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Many people can benefit from the stigma-free and less stimulating environment, including those with sensory processing challenges, autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and adults with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.
