      Introduction:

The Dominican Friars Outreach Fund was established to support and enhance our traditional outreach program. Donations from St. Peter parishioners, St. Martin de Porres National Shrine and Institute patrons and the Dominican Friars of Memphis enable the pastor and the Dominican Friars Outreach Fund Committee to provide assistance to those in need.

      Mission:

Guided by the spirit of the Gospel and the Dominican Tradition, our outreach seeks to provide both financial and spiritual support that aligns with the Dominican Values of prayer, study, community and preaching.

      • Prayer: Promote communities of prayer
      • Study: Educate the Poor in underserved areas and aid immigrants in community assimilation
      • Community: Feed/Clothe/Shelter the Needy - Care for the Sick and Aged and other critical community needs
      • Preaching: Promote organizations that promote preaching on behalf of the poor, homeless, and marginalized.

      Vision:

Our vision is to be a thriving community of hope, belonging, and healing through worship, prayer, parish life and service, which rejoices in the love of Jesus to transform the world. This means using every means available including prayer and preaching to help parishioners and patrons understand the Gospel imperative to feed the hungry, clothe and shelter the needy, care for the sick and visit the imprisoned, as well as the Christian call to be an instrument of healing brokenness in our world.

The Committee also intends to establish personal relationships with organizations receiving monetary assistance through site visits and by encouraging DFOF parishioners and patrons to serve as volunteers to continue the work of Christ through actively serving the world in God’s name.

      Amount and Purpose of Funding:

For the current grant funding cycle, organizations may apply for up to $7,500 for one year of general program support for operations that target needs identified by those served but may not be used for capital campaign funding. Actual amounts granted depends on the resources available for the current funding cycle, the impact to be achieved for those served by the charitable organization and the quality of the organization’s proposal.

      Conditions for DFOF funding:

DFOF’s Outreach Committee grants offer financial support to qualified Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organizations for activities which further this mission and align with our vision.

      Applicants agree to:

      • To spend all funds in accordance with the local, state and federal law, including the Internal Revenue Code.
      • Not to use any DFOF funds in the performance of any partisan political activity or to further the election or defeat of any candidate for public office.
      • Not use any DFOF funds for activities contrary to the Catholic Church’s Moral and Social Justice teaching.

DFOF is not a co-venturer or partner in operating or managing your organization, nor shall DFOF be liable for your organization acts or omissions. By accepting DFOF grant funds your organization agrees to indemnify DFOF in case of a claim against DFOF arising from your organization’s acts or omissions.

Organizations must submit their applications for general program support funding prior to April 30. Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted through the website.  The Committee plans to review applications no later than May 31 and intends to disburse funds by June 30.

The application may be accessed from this link:

    Angel Tree
    • Angel Tree

The Angel Tree program has been a continuing ministry of St. Peter Church for many years. Angel Tree currently benefits Catholic Charities Gifts for God’s Children. Prior to the Catholic Charities  program, Christmas gifts were sent to charities in Marks, Mississippi to help make Christmas brighter for a child in need. The current program helps children, families and seniors in need to have a joyous and holy season. More than one thousand gifts have been donated by St Peter parishioners over the years.

    Sandwich Ministry
    • Sandwich Ministry

St. Peter Church provides an additional Sunday meal for those in downtown Memphis that do not have adequate shelter.  This ministry is in partnership with First Presbyterian Church Sunday Soup Kitchen which was founded in 1981 to provide the afternoon meal.  The sandwich ministry has provided more than one million sandwiches to those in need. To join this vital ministry, email Annette Askew [email protected].

Chose to make a month-to-month commitment or make sandwiches as your schedule allows.  Click here for more details and instructions for making sandwiches.

      Mission

Following the teachings of Jesus Christ, we provide help to those in need and bring them hope by supporting them on the path from poverty to self-sufficiency.

      Vision

A community where all can find hope, dignity, and support from their neighbors in time of need.

Catholic Charities of West Tennessee has been serving West Tennessee for over 50 years, working to end hunger, end homelessness, and offer hope to families seeking a better tomorrow.

We try to meet people where they are, offering hope as we help, and we never do this work alone. Volunteerism is a key driver in this work, as individuals, churches, businesses, schools, and others serve with us every day.

      What We Do

Informed by the themes of Catholic Social Teaching, CCWTN approaches its work with a spirit of hospitality, intentionality, and service. The four main services of CCWTN are emergency services, housing services, outreach services, and community support services.

Emergency Services represents the largest number of people served, and includes food, clothing, and disaster assistance for over 50,000 people each year.

Housing Services provides assistance for persons experiencing homelessness, focusing on creating a successful path to permanent and stable housing. Over the last year, Catholic Charities ended homelessness for over 400 people, and is on track to exceed 500 in the coming year. Approximately 1 in 3 people experiencing homelessness in the Greater Memphis area are served at CCWTN.

Outreach Services meet the basic needs of Memphis’ homeless population. These services are designed to build trust, connect resources, and ultimately map a path to housing stability. Services include mobile street outreach, daily meals, clothing, access to restrooms, hand washing stations, and weekly community prayer with coffee at CCWTN. This program has grown by 300% since COVID-19 arrived.

Community Support Services include summer camp, family empowerment, school supplies, holiday giving, and immigration support. These programs combined, serve the non-emergency needs of nearly 3,000 people each year.

CCWTN & St. Peter's Volunteer Oppotunites

St. Peter's is a proud parish partner to CCWTN. While you can contact CCWTN directly to volunteer, we encourage you to email our Outreach Ministry Team and see if others in the parish would like to join you. • Gather a St. Peter's group together and pack or distribute food boxes or daily meal bags
      • Volunteer to assist in orgainizing the clothing closet
      • Orgainize a collection of needed items such as non-perishable, easy to open individual-sized meats, fruits, and snacks
      • Host a food or clothing drive at St. Peter's
