Fr. Scott will provide an overview of the major components of Mass beginning with a discussion of the Introductory Rites and conclude with a reflection on the relationship between the Eucharist and Christian Service.
This first class (March 12th) will introduce the participants to some principles of the Church’s liturgical prayer, our preparation for the Mass, the place and function of the Penitential Rite, the Gloria and the Opening Prayer. We will also discuss the role of silence as an integral part in Catholic worship.
In the second class, (March 19th) we will reflect on the Church’s use of Scripture in the Liturgy of the Word. We will discuss the Lectionary and how the readings from the Bible are incorporated into worship. The selection of Scripture passages, the Homily, the Creed and the Universal Prayer (the Petitions) will be our topics for discussion.
Our third class (March 26th) will address the Liturgy of the Eucharist proper with the Presentation of the Gifts, the Eucharistic Prayer and the Communion Rite as topics for our consideration.
During the last class (April 9th) we will review the Concluding Rites with its Closing Prayer, Final Blessing and Dismissal with a reflection on Eucharist’s Relationship to Christian Service and the Works of Mercy.
This Lent on Sunday mornings, we will explore prayer using this new little book by Fr. Paul Murray O.P. This book and study are part of the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025!

Lent is a wonderful time for families! Children are welcome at all of our parish Lenten activities, from Stations of the Cross to Easter Sunday. MagnifiKids are available in the back of the church for Ash Wednesday, Sundays of Lent, Holy Week and Easter Sunday. We will have Children's Liturgy of the Word during both the 8:30 and 11:00 Masses on Sundays during Lent and on Easter Sunday. For more information about childcare during Holy Week and Easter, please contact [email protected].
One of the favorite activities of the children in the atrium is setting up the prayer table and gathering for prayer. Sometimes the child prays on her own, and sometimes the children gather as a group. Lent is a great time to set up your own prayer space at home. Please see the links below for more information.
